The Yard: HBCU Esports Alliance (HEA), a collegiate esports league for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the United States, kicks off its inaugural league season with a variety of competitions and support from presenting partner, Gillette.
The league, which will run for eight weeks, will feature HEA member schools competing in Madden NFL 21 every Monday at 6 p.m. EST for a chance to win scholarships and prizes from Gillette. Matchups will be played in MaddenNFL 21’s “The Yard” mode, which also features a “Gillette Style Zone” that allows players to customize facial hair in-game.
Other events include competitions in NBA 2K21 and PGA 2K21 on Tuesdays, Rocket League and NASCAR Heat5 matchups on Wednesdays, and a weekly recap show that highlights participating schools, student players, and scholarship winners every Saturday at 3 p.m. EST.
HEA announced its partnership with Gillette last December, along with the “Groomed to Game” esports initiative. That initiative includes “integrated grooming content” from the Gillette Barber Council, along with HEA-branded razors and scholarships.
